How to update Garmin RV 890 maps
Download Garmin Express (official only)
Go to garmin.com/express on your computer. Download and install Garmin Express — the official, free map update tool. Do not use third-party "Garmin update" sites — most are scams or malware.
Connect your RV 890 via USB
Find the USB cable that came in the Garmin box (micro-USB or the included cable). Power on your RV 890 first, then connect to your computer. Garmin Express should detect it within 30 seconds.
Sign in to your Garmin account
Create a free account at connect.garmin.com if you don't have one. Signing in links your device to your map license and activates any Lifetime Map updates that came with your GPS.
Download map updates
Click "Add Map Updates" or "Install All." North America maps are 4-8GB — let the download run completely. Keep your computer on, the GPS connected, and do not let the computer sleep. This takes 30-90 minutes.
Eject safely and verify
When Garmin Express shows "Update complete," click the eject icon next to your RV 890 before unplugging the cable. Power on the GPS → Settings → About → confirm the new map date.
