Identify exact Honda nav model
Look at top of nav screen Settings System About. Note exact model number (2018 CR-V Touring uses Garmin Honda 6.1in). Map files are model-specific — wrong file wont load.

Get Class 10+ SD card, 32 GB minimum
Honda nav SD slot accepts SDHC up to 32 GB. Format must be FAT32 (Windows: right-click drive Format FAT32). Class 10 minimum for transfer speed during install.

Register VIN at garmin.com/honda
Visit garmin.com/honda or your dealer nav update portal. Register your VIN. Download the matched map file (8-14 GB depending on year).

Copy map file to SD card root
Copy the downloaded file to the SD card root (NOT in any folder). Some Honda nav versions need a specific filename — leave as downloaded.

Insert SD card with car running
Engine running (alternator providing power), insert SD card into nav slot. Nav unit detects and prompts Update Available. Confirm.

Dont shut off engine during update
Update takes 45-90 minutes depending on map size. Engine MUST run the entire time — alternator power is required. Park in a safe spot, leave it idling.
⚠️ Warning: Shutting off engine mid-update will brick the nav unit. Recovery requires dealer service.

Verify update completed, remove SD
Nav says Update Complete. Settings System About — verify map version is current year. Remove SD card and store safely.

Re-pair Bluetooth phones if needed
Major map updates sometimes reset Bluetooth pairings. Settings Bluetooth forget all phones, re-pair from phone side.
