How to Update Garmin Venu — 8 Steps
Cable: Garmin proprietary 4-pin charging clip (USB-A). Garmin Express: Required

Charge Venu to 80%+
Venu firmware updates need stable power. Use original Garmin charging clip — 4-pin connector. Aftermarket clips often miss the data pin and watch shows charging but doesnt connect to Express.
⚠️ Warning: Dont rely on wireless charging during update — Venu uses proprietary 4-pin clip, no Qi support.

Sync Venu with Garmin Connect first
Pending steps, sleep, HR, body battery — all lost if firmware updates before sync. Open Connect → tap Venu → wait Last Synced under 2 min.

Choose update method: WiFi or USB
Venu 2/2 Plus/3 support over-the-air via WiFi. Original Venu and Venu Sq need USB Garmin Express. We recommend USB even for Venu 3 — eliminates mid-update WiFi drops.

Connect Venu via charging clip to PC
Plug clip into rear PC USB port (front-panel ports often underpowered for sustained transfer). Open Garmin Express. Watch should appear within 30 seconds.

Install firmware first, then watch faces / music
Firmware download 60-120 MB depending on model. Watch reboots 2 times — Garmin logo, blank, logo, home screen. Total: 8-12 minutes USB.

Reinstall Connect IQ watch faces if needed
Some Connect IQ watch faces show as Incompatible after firmware updates. Open Connect IQ Store on phone → reinstall any broken items. Auto-updates within 24 hours.

Re-authenticate music services
Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer auth often expires during firmware updates. Connect IQ Store → music app → Sign Out then Sign In. Re-sync songs from phone.

Verify sync working both directions
Take 50 steps, check Connect app shows updated count. Start a 1-min walk activity, save it, verify it appears in Connect within 60 seconds.
