Garmin Express is a free desktop app from Garmin (for Windows or Mac) that updates your Garmin device's maps and software. Download it at garmin.com/express, install it, then plug your Garmin device into your computer with a USB cable. Express detects the device and shows what updates are available — click Install. It works for most Garmin products: fitness watches, nuvi car GPS units, dezl truck navigators, fishing devices, and more. There is also a separate WebUpdater for older devices.

Is Garmin Express the same as Garmin Connect?
No. Garmin Express is a DESKTOP app for Windows or Mac computers — it updates your device's maps and software. Garmin Connect is a MOBILE app for phones and tablets — it shows your fitness data, syncs your watch, and tracks workouts. Most Garmin watch owners use both: Connect daily on their phone, Express occasionally on a computer for big updates.
Which Garmin devices work with Garmin Express?
Most Garmin products from 2014 or newer: fitness watches (fenix, forerunner, vivoactive, venu, instinct), car GPS (drivesmart, drivecam, dezl, RV), handheld outdoor (Oregon, etrex), and many marine/fitness products. Older devices from before 2014 may need the legacy 'WebUpdater' app instead. If Garmin Express doesn't recognize your device, try WebUpdater.
Is Garmin Express free?
Yes — completely free to download and use. Some MAP updates inside Express may cost money for older devices, but the app itself is always free. Most modern Garmin units come with 'lifetime maps' so map updates are included free for the life of the device.
Does Garmin Express work on Chromebook or Linux?
No — Garmin Express only works on Windows 10/11 and macOS 11 or newer. Chromebooks (ChromeOS) and Linux are not supported. If you only have a Chromebook, you'll need to borrow a Windows or Mac computer occasionally for major updates, or use Garmin Connect mobile for everything that can be done on a phone.
