What if it's not working?
Problem: My photo is too big — it says 'Attachment too large'
How to fix: Gmail allows up to 25 MB per email. For larger files, Gmail will offer to send the photo via Google Drive — just click 'Yes' and the recipient gets a link to download.
Problem: I don't see a paperclip icon
How to fix: If you're using Gmail in 'basic HTML' mode (older browsers), click 'Standard view' at the top. Or update your browser to the latest version.
Problem: The photo won't upload — it just spins
How to fix: Your internet may be slow. Wait 1 minute, then try again. If still stuck, close the compose window (it saves as a draft), reopen, and try again.
Problem: I want to send several photos
How to fix: Click the paperclip icon, hold the Ctrl key (or Command key on a Mac), and click each photo one by one. They all attach together.
Frequently asked questions
How big a photo can I send in Gmail?
Up to 25 MB total in one email. Most phone photos are 2-5 MB so you can usually send 5-10 in one email.
Can I send a photo from my phone to a Gmail account?
Yes. On the Gmail app, tap Compose, tap the paperclip icon, choose 'Attach file', and pick photos from your gallery.
Will the recipient be able to see my photo?
Yes — anyone with email can see attached photos. They just click the photo in the email to view or download.
Can the photo be too small to send?
No — there's no minimum size. Even a tiny image works. The 25 MB limit is the maximum, not minimum.
Why does my photo show up sideways for the person who got it?
Some phones save photo orientation in a way email doesn't read. Before sending, open the photo on your computer and rotate it to the correct orientation, then save and re-attach.
